The image given below displays kilowatt-hour meter readings recorded at two distinct points in time.

The image given below displays kilowatt-hour meter readings recorded at *two* distinct points in time. Assuming a continuously running 2000W air conditioner as the sole electrical device in use, calculate the time interval, in hours, between these *two* meter readings. Specimen Board Paper 2027, ICSE 2027 Specimen Physics Solved Question Paper.

Assuming a continuously running 2000W air conditioner as the sole electrical device in use, calculate the time interval, in hours, between these two meter readings.

Show SolutionHide Solution↓

Given,

  • Power rating of air conditioner (P) = 2000 W
  • Initial meter reading = 856 kWh
  • Final meter reading = 1567 kWh

Now,

Electrical energy used (E) = 1567 − 856 = 711 kWh

$\text{Time} = \frac{\text{Energy}}{\text{Power}} = \frac{711 \text{ kWh}}{2 \text{ kW}} = 355.5 \text{ h}$

Hence, the time interval is 355.5 h.
